This is something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time and finally have decided to pull the trigger on. Over the next few months I’m going to put together a body of work that will be a departure from my usual architecture and commercial photography. It’s going to be a combination of two styles of visual imagery I love, yet up until recently, didn’t have a clue of how to express my vision of it.

I’m calling it Cinematic Street Photography, and it’s a blend of street photography, another genre I’ve grown to enjoy over the past few years, combined with cinematic or “movie style” post processing and colour grading added to enhance the final mood and feeling of each photograph. I’m sure this isn’t the first time this has been done, but the few test images I’ve created have got me very excited about these kind of shots and I can’t wait to get more of this work done.

The aesthetic look I want is for each separate image to look and feel as if it is a 35mm frame taken right out of a film reel, almost like a frozen snapshot in time ripped out of a movie complete with 16:9 aspect ratio and film bars above and below the photos. I’d like the viewers mind to play with each shot and imagine the movement and story that comes before and after that individual 1/24th of a second frame, creating ones own personal narrative in your own mind.

This will be an ongoing project with updates posted here regularly so please enjoy the photographs and if you like feel free to let me know what kind of movie or story the photos come from. I’m looking forward to hearing your own interpretations and narratives of this project.
